US — Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram, has issued a massive safety recall affecting more than 1.07 million vehicles in the United States after federal regulators identified a defect that could increase the risk of vehicle fires, even when the vehicles are parked and turned off.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall involves a defect in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. Investigators determined that an electrical connection within the system can overheat, potentially leading to a fire. Stellantis said dealers will inspect and replace affected components free of charge.

The recall covers the following vehicles:

  • 2021 Jeep Wrangler
  • 2022 Jeep Wrangler
  • 2023 Jeep Wrangler
  • 2024 Jeep Wrangler
  • 2025 Jeep Wrangler
  • 2021 Jeep Gladiator
  • 2022 Jeep Gladiator
  • 2023 Jeep Gladiator
  • 2024 Jeep Gladiator
  • 2025 Jeep Gladiator

Federal safety officials estimate that approximately 787,887 Jeep Wranglers and 289,112 Jeep Gladiators are affected by the recall. Stellantis has reported dozens of field incidents related to the defect, including confirmed fire events and at least one reported injury potentially linked to the issue. No crashes have been reported.

Owners of affected vehicles are being urged to park outdoors and away from structures until repairs can be completed. The company expects repair procedures to become available in the coming weeks, and notification letters are scheduled to begin mailing to owners in July.

The recall extends beyond the United States, affecting more than 1.3 million vehicles worldwide, including vehicles sold in Canada, Mexico and other international markets.

In a separate recall announced at the same time, Stellantis also recalled 17,277 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid minivans from model years 2020 through 2022 because of a high-voltage battery defect that could lead to thermal runaway and vehicle fires. Owners of those vehicles have been advised not to charge their minivans and to park them outdoors until repairs are completed.

Vehicle owners can determine whether their vehicle is affected by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the official Chrysler recall website or through the NHTSA recall database.

Affected models in the primary 1.07-million-vehicle recall:

  • Jeep Wrangler
  • Jeep Gladiator

Affected models in the separate battery-fire recall:
