Citrus County School District Superintendent Sandra “Sam” Himmel said the school board is working on a plan for Class of 220 graduates to celebrate with their families.

The plans revolve around a drive-thru celebration for seniors.

Himmel sent out the following statement:

Dear Class of 2020 and families,

I am pleased to announce that the Citrus County School District will provide an opportunity for families to come together to celebrate the Class of 2020. This unique, unprecedented time is difficult for so many of our parents and students, especially our seniors. We empathize with our seniors who have missed many activities, including prom, to create life-long memories as part of the typical senior year.

We know the magic of graduation will not be fully experienced due to not having a traditional ceremony right now, however, we hope this alternative offers some form of well-deserved recognition. Principals will be releasing more details about their respective drive-thru celebrations soon.

This pandemic does not define the Class of 2020. The impact, experiences, and memories of the past 13 years cannot be erased. So please keep your head up. You have so much to look forward to and I wish you nothing but success in your future.

I am looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2020!

Sincerely,
Sandra “Sam” Himmel
