Deputy Nick Erdman with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office was on his way to work Monday when he sideswiped a utility pole.
According to the CCSO, Deputy Erdman sideswiped the pole after swerving to avoid another vehicle that was headed toward him in his lane.
The incident occurred on Gospel Island Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. about a half-mile from State Road 44.
According to reports, Deputy Erdman, who suffered minor injuries, was transported to a local hospital.
The other vehicle, a blue Nissan Murano, did not stop and fled the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
